Log Cabin Saga

Chapter 2 - Preparing the Foundation & Pre-building the Cabin

R & N Construction came in October to excavate for the foundation. By this time we had come to the conclusion that an exterior entrance to the cabin would be a good idea so materials could go directly into the basement rather than through the main level. The rains started, naturally, when it was time to pour the concrete.

Anyway, concrete arrived, pouring, etc. progressed.

The forms came off and finally there was something visible to show for our hours of labour.

The lip for the logs was formed in, poured and rods inserted to make sure the logs would remain in place.

Meanwhile, Dan and his crew had been piecing together the logs.

They located the doors and windows. Replacement logs had to be found for those that had deteriorated.

By September 11, 2003, the floor joists for the loft were in place. Soon Jason was able to power wash the logs, and the cabin was ready to go "home".
